Head Instructor

Mr Jon Churchward 2nd Degree Blackbelt, 11 years experience in Taekwon-do, CRB enhanced disclosure, first aider

Jon started Taekwon-do in 2000 after moving to the North east from Torbay in Devon where he had a successful amateur boxing career which included representing the County. A keen student in boxing and the history of boxing and a love for contact sport led him to taking to Taekwon-do.

Moved to the UKTF as a green belt and achieved Blackbelt under the instruction of Mr McKenna (6th Degree) in March 2007.

In 2005 Jon won three gold medals out of four disciplines at the UKTF British Championships held at Gateshead in the senior category and was also awarded best senior student of the championships. He followed that up in 2006 with gold and a bronze in the UKTF Scottish championships in Wishaw, Glasgow.

Jon has a degree in business management and had a successful career in manufacturing senior management including delivering Personal development programmes as a qualified facilitator which focus on positive mental attitude and increasing self esteem which he delivered in the corporate world. He has used many of these techniques to assist his development in martial arts and uses many of these techniques whilst helping his students to achieve their goals and ambitions.

In January 2009 Jon left the manufacturing world to continue to develop his career in martial arts instruction on a full time basis and has seen the membership of the club grow to one of the largest and most competitive clubs in the North east.

Jon is married with two young daughters both of which he would like to see follow in his footsteps into martial arts and is settled in the North east after moving up from Devon in 1995
